2006 Business Criteria for Performance Excellence Available

The Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence is an integrated management framework to help organizations identify organizational strenghts and opportunities for improvement. The Criteria provide a valuable framework that can help you measure performance and plan for the future. Every two years the Criteria are revised to reflect the challenges that organizations face. This year, no substantive revisions to the Criteria have been made for 2006 to allow some continuity for users in their performance assessments. In 2005, The Baldrige Criteria were significalty revised to address demands on senior leaders, sustainability, innovations challenges, executing new processes and plans, and aligning management systems with results.

  • For 2006, the language throughout the Criteria has been adjusted to better address nonprofit organizations and for-profit businesses.
  • Item Notes have been modified to address nonprofit organizations.
  • Each Criteria Item title includes a simple question that encompasses the basic requirements of the Item.
  • "Employee" has been added to the Glossary of Key Terms to better define all the people who may be included as employees.
Copies of the Criteria can be order through VCQ after the first of the year. A pdf version is available on the NIST website at this time.
