Boeing Preferred Supplier Conference - Review
May 23, 2006
Sponsored by the Department of Economic Development
Hosted by Vermont Council for Quality
Michael Quinn, Commissioner of Economic Development welcomed everyone to the conference and introduced Lieutenant Governor, Brian Dubie. The Lieutenant Governor reinforced the importance of how the conference can help strengthen and expand Vermont's economy with its involvement in the aerospace sector.
Suppliers from all areas of Vermont attended the Boeing Preferred Supplier Conference to hear from Boeing’s Integrated Defense Systems - Dan Korte, VP of Supplier Management and Procurement and Joan Robinson-Berry, Director of IDS Supplier Diversity. Both Dan and Joan reinforced the importance of organizations to have quality systems in place in order to be preferred suppliers to organizations such as Boeing.
Dan is responsible for all subcontract and procurement matters, including policymaking and implementation, subcontract oversight, and process improvement. Joan is responsible for maintaining and improving Boeing relationships with the federal government on matters related to small business subcontracting and supplier diversity.
The IDS Supplier Management and Procurement organization is comprised of more than 3,500 employees in 30 states and eight countries, and is responsible for the annual purchase of $13 billion in products and services vital to Boeing’s operations. The organization’s goals include focusing on supplier relationships, improving supplier performance and creating cost reductions that lead to a competitive advantage for Boeing’s customers. The organization also works with suppliers to share technologies that improve processes, product designs and manufacturing capabilities.
Panelists from General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products, Goodrich Corporation, and Triad Design Service, Inc. were on hand to answer questions with their extensive history with doing business with Boeing. These organizations have sub-contracts in order to fulfill their obligations to Boeing, further promoting business in Vermont.
A special thanks to The Vermont Department of Economic Development for sponsoring this informative event in order to help improve the economy and promote business in Vermont.
Excellence in Higher Education Conference
September 8, 2006 - 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
Trapp Family Lodge, Stowe, VT
Sponsored by the Vermont State College Business Administration Departments
Hosted by Vermont Council for Quality
Today’s colleges and universities are being held to increasingly high standards by the many groups they serve. To meet these expectations, higher education must continually improve the quality of academics, teaching, learning, and administrative and support services. By using the right tools, colleges and universities can improve efficiency and effectiveness to drive higher levels of performance and better results.
Monfort College of Business has gained that competitive edge with using the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence by achieving the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award - the nation's highest honor for quality and performance excellence awarded by the President of the United States. They have demonstrated outstanding results in the seven areas of: leadership; strategic planning; student, stakeholder and market focus; information management; faculty and staff focus; process management; and results.
Tim Jares, Associate Dean of Monfort College of Business will share their best practices in the seven areas to help you focus on strategies to begin your journey of continuous improvement. You will learn how to:
- Use key factors that attract and retain students that lead to student satisfaction and loyalty
- Increase student achievement while cutting administrative overhead costs
- Meet the needs of students and drive strategic objectives
- Measure key indicators to drive performance to higher levels with continuous improvement strategies
- Assess the performance of your organization and identify strengths and opportunities to improve
Excellence in Higher Education will help faculty, staff, administrators, and other stakeholders make the connection between the Baldrige framework, continuous improvement and quality practices.
The Vermont State College Business Administration Departments will sponsor all attendees at no cost!

2006 Quest for Excellence XVIII - Review
April 23-26, 2006
For the last seventeen years, The Quest for Excellence has provided a forum for the recipients of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award to showcase their exceptional performance practices. This year, recipients from every Award category were represented - manufacturing, service, small business, education (both K-12 and higher education), and health care. Additionally, special topic sessions were featured from former Award recipients from all three sectors. The Quest is an ideal opportunity to learn about best practices and results of the 2005 Baldrige Award recipients. Attendees were able to track the journey of two Award recipients, track a Category, or both. Networking opportunities were limitless.
We are looking forward to having the 2005 Baldrige Award recipients in New Hampshire at the Regional Conference. You don't want to miss this opportunity to learn from the present and former Award recipients that will be so close to our area.
Article: Self-Assessment for Continuous Improvement
Self-Assessment for Continuous Improvement is an article in the March/April 2006 issue of Principal — the bimonthly magazine of the National Association of Elementary School Principals. Principals from three K-12 school districts that have received the Baldrige Award share their perspectives on how their districts and schools use the Education Criteria for Performance Excellence to achieve their organizational performance goals. With an emphasis on students' academic performance, the principals relate their schools' continuing improvement efforts through "the lens" of the Baldrige Criteria.
